Bikes Of Indy

A white female cyclist was taken away in an ambulance tonight around 7:30-8 at Highland and St. Clair near Tech high school. There were apparently no witnesses of an accident and according to a neighbor who saw her laying in the street and ran out to help the cyclist didn't remember anything. The bike is a brown Peugeot road bike with a kickstand, flat metal pedals, BMX style foam padding on the stem and no handle bar tape - it had dropped the chain but the handlebars looked straight and there was no obvious frame damage so I would guess that this was a single bike accident. The cops were still writing up a report when I left.

Anyone know her or have more information?

I've actually dropped the chain on a bike and smacked my head on the cement as a result. It sucks. I hope she's okay.

Someone just got hit at around 8:15 crossing 38th on the Monon. It looked pretty bad, his bike was in pieces 50' down the road and he was crumpled against the curb in a weird position. The emergency vehicles were arriving as I left.

He passed me as we were going north on the Monon and I was only 100 yards behind him when he was hit. I couldn't see because the trail curves at that point but it appears he was hit by a white sedan, maybe a Dodge Neon. Someone a few cars back told me that he didn't stop at the intersection. Based on the arrangement of the stopped cars I'd guess the white car was a good distance in front of a pack of cars.

He was riding a road bike, wearing brown cargo shorts and a t-shirt, with a nylon shoulder bag. No one is ever going north at the same time I am in the morning and I almost sprinted to catch him.

I hope he lives.

Yeah... if there's one intersection on the Monon you don't mess with it's 38th St.

The cyclist is in stable condition. And WISH TV readers are all assholes.

WTHR now as a story up, saying the cyclist only has minor injuries. If that is true then the dude must be made of steel.

They are just dumb. How can they possibly say that no cyclists ever stop? Most people don't pay enough attention to say if a cyclist stopped or not. When I was hit by a car a "witness" said I never stopped when i factually did. Eventually you have to put your feet on the pedals and start pedaling and waiting for the car to cross your path. It really isn't rocket science.

The girl at Highland and St. Clair was Erin Drew. She was pretty banged up but she's alright. She still doesn't know what happened.
